It has been donkey’s years since I passed my driving tests (Car/HGV/Motorbike/HGV Cat C+E in that order). My eldest son has his driving test on Tuesday. If he gets a pass can he insure my car that I am signing over to him (send the V5 off) straight away?

Yes....he can drive it immediately after passing his test as long as he has insurance in place

Nice one Lozzy, didn’t know whether we had to await some sort of acknowledgment from those (Lazy b*stards) down at DVLA.

He'll get a pass certificate off the examiner at the time, and thats proof until his licence comes back :)

Just remember that your son still only holds a provisional licence until his new full licence is received through the post (assuming he asked the examiner to send off his licence on his behalf) so he needs to make it clear to the insurers that whilst he has passed his test, the arrival of his full licence is pending.

It makes no difference to the premium of cover level, but if not mentioned they may deem it a failure to declare in the unfortunate event that something happens between the policy being taken out and his licence arriving.

But as said, once cover is confirmed, he will be insured to drive which can be the same day.
