Hondas have a reputation for the gearboxes being the weakest part of the whole package. That said, apart from clunkyness with some of the Hondas I've had, I've not had an actual problem with the boxes per se.

@BooMTowN fit a Gilles gear shift shaft outrigger bearing support, set your chain tension correctly and adjust your shifter to suit then abuse your slipper clutch and enjoy your blade. (P.S. you're right, Suzuki boxes are the best).

That’s not right at all mate, the only thing with the Hondas are the big clunk at standstill into first gear, every blade I’ve had and even with 50k miles have found the gearbox to be silky smooth.

the shaft support is a good idea and I would happily recommend racetorx for a good product and great value after using one on mine for some years now.

    Hope you get it sorted

Are you telling me that you bought a bike from a main dealer and the gearbox was clunky until you oiled the chain!!! As Raphael said they can be a bit clunky putting them into first from neutral and quite noisy in neutral but after that they should be smooth.

Bike is nice n smooth, but like I said,it was struggling to go down gears, now the bike is geared so much different to the 600 I had so maybe I was to low in the box,I've read ot can be slack or unused chain aswell.as other things...if its not q00% I'll yale it in

Had the bike out for an hour or two on Monday, once warmed up it is random as hell dropping down box Into 2nd and 1st,sometimes sweet as a nutt and others it.just won't go...I've booked.it in to honda for repair...if this is remotely normal the I can't keep it..Will drive me Batshit crazy...its fine cold but gets worse when warm..seems to suggest clutch plates.i think I read..hopefully they'll sort it and I can get back to just riding..up the box is spot on,brakes handling and power are great so no worries there...oh,I did notice that when pottering local the temp goes up quick and I'm sure something smells burny...if you know what I mean...anyway,fingers crossed again .

Sorry to piss on yer chips bud but These are the smoothest litre bikes you can get mate, I wouldn’t even waste my time looking at what it could be and throw it straight back at them as there’s clearly something wrong.

Bike went into honda, for nearly 2 weeks whilst they testes and tested...zero problems they say..I fitted a healtech gear indicator..under battery/fuse box,was a nightmare to find, especially as I took the front off thinking it was their lol..anyway,had anhjour out today and really enjoyed it...what a difference knowing where I am in the box..I'll pro ably be getting a new rearsets fitted..any suggestions appreciated..I've noticed the actual gear lever is further away from the frame than my old one was so find myself pushing down on the actual shaft rather than the lever, still works but annoying... 20220205_122935.jpg

I use putoline N-tech pro R+ and never had a problem
And I wanted a twelve and ended up with a 16 but went for these years because of the gear indicator built in the dash
Non abs because I done a lot of reading ;)
