Hi guys, we have a 2008 , 1000rr race bike. Could anybody tell me about how to fix the 3rd gear issue. I've heard about Honda making stronger gear wheel for later models. Is that true ? What about the shift drum, I've understood that -14 up Honda updated it. Is it worth replacing, what was the update about ?

I had my 3rd gear go on my 2011 blade..... stripped it all down and the 3rd gear input and output cogs were fecked!! so replaced with a Nova Racing Cogs.... as 3rd gear from Honda are made of chocolate. No issues after fitting the new cogs....

Hi did you get any warning/noise before it went? Mines had a fair bit of use for on track and it’s started making a slightly different sound in 3rd. Is it a complete engine strip down to split the cases?

No warning at all mate, just jumped out of gear and before i could pull the clutch in, it slammed into gear and then sounded like a tractor

I trashed my gearbox on my 2009 blade, I had to have a full engine refresh. At this time I opted to replace 1st 2nd and 3rd gear with Novo racing cogs. It made changing lower gears smoother , and missing out false neutrals. The gap between oem gearbox and Novo is the difference to selection. Close ratio.

Good day. So we decided to replace the 3rd gear with Nova one. I measured that the back plate is lot thicker and the wheel weights 60g more than the Honda one and it's made from billet. So I think now I can sleep in peace. I'm really surprised that the original didn't fail last season since the bike is making more power and torque on the wheel now than the stock on the crank.

You can put the engine upside down and remove the bottom part casing only to gain access to the transmission.
