I'm not sure if i have mentioned it here before, so apologies if I have

I have had problems with my digestive system for something like 20 years, and have had surgery in the past, about 12 years ago, at that time, everything was reassembled with little affect to my lifestyle

I'm now on a waiting list for a total colectomy, ill be connected back up internally, so I wont have a bag unless it goes wrong during surgery

There are a million emotions , feeling kinda stressed and although it sounds ridiculous, I'm stressed because the car broke, and is now probably fixed, and now the bike is broken,

anyway, its good to talk, and its always easier with the folks on here

All the best mate, don’t worry about the bike or the car, all these things can be fixed, your health and recovery is more important.

thanks. it seems a bit weird scheduling the surgery in, its like, you should only do things like this when you are desperately ill, so i feel like I might be taking advantage

You’re not taking advantage, don’t worry about that.
Best to get it fixed now, rather than wait until it has got a lot worse in (say) 10 years time. You’ll get more benefit for longer and your cost to society and the NHS will be less. So everyone’s a winner if you go ahead with it now!
When it’s all fixed you’ll be so relieved and ready to get on with the rest of your life without this worry.

that is the main reason for doing it, i have been getting ill every six months, weeks off work, a week in hospital, and sometimes its been a bit dangerous

there will be a fair few adjustments to life after its done though

You've got to trust in the skill of the surgeon knowing he'll have done this sort of thing loads of times before and you'll come out of it in great shape. Stress makes you distrust your own logic and sends your mind all over the place. It will be fine, unfortunately it's simply patience you have to have, easy for me to say I know. Keep us updated.

Nothing wrong in talking about it. No good suffering, get yourself right.
You've got take the advantage when you can with this sort of situation.

good news is that the car is still working, and the brake calliper should come tomorrow for the bike, I will be taking it for a 'test ride around the block'. I know that will make me feel better as will getting back to the gym after a week off

I am assuming the surgeon knows what he is doing, he did do me a little sketch, but he didn't have a stethoscope, I guess he left it in the abdomen of his last victim.

Joking aside, he is very reassuring, calming, and confident, like my last surgeon, not rushing around like the drs or nurses who your GP who usually cant wait to see the back of you

He sounds like the type of guy to instil some confidence when you need it. I had a hip job a couple of years ago. The surgeon came in in jeans, sat on the bed and started talking about his old house he was renovating.. "I've got a lovely new chain saw" was part of that.. Not sure confidence building was on his list.

he does seem alright, he has said its rare and unusual surgery for my condition, thats kinda off putting, and it makes it harder to compare with other people

it is gonna be nice not to have the constant worry of taking ill at any point, and wondering if im getting ill or just need a big trump

We havent exchanged DIY tips yet though
