Hi All, hoping someone can help. My bike sat in my garage over the winter on a charger and no problems so far. I gave it an oil and tyre change, then took it outside where it started first time a couple of weeks ago. I have ridden it about 200 miles before noticing first problem, no neutral light. I parked the bike at work then on way home the neutral light came and went. So I cleaned the switch and all was good. I was at work again testing it before booking an MOT and all electrics worked apart from back brake light. When I started the bike on way home from work, the back brake light was least of my worries. The horn isn't working, the high beam light on the dash stays on all the time, indicators are all on, all the time, a dull glow (shown in pic), so if you turn an indicator on you see nothing on dash, but it did work intermittently on journey home when the dash showed indicators flashing . If I hit high beam passing switch, there's no headlight, but the dash indicator becomes brighter. Also the bike starts but I'm not hearing the fuel pump prime. I was glad I got home and it didn't affect anything that would kill the engine. The neutral light is still working fine though Can anyone give me an idea of what to check first? My plan at the moment is to go through all the connectors and clean them and check the grounds are OK.
Hi Phil Sounds like you going in the right direction. Possibly related to the left side switchgear , I’d start with that and the multi plugs at the front end. Then the earth block under the tank. Do you get condensation in the garage or was it put away wet?
Thanks Broadie, the bike had been out in the wet and had been washed a couple of days earlier, but just a garden hose, not a power washer. I usually ride the bike after washing to help dry it out, but I had been out in rain. I've ridden it before in bad weather without any problems, but because it is intermittent, I'm guessing it has to moisture in the wiring.
As said most likely actual moisture or contact corrosion because of. Go through each multi plug separating, cleaning and drying (don’t forget to check the earth) - good luck
An update. So cleaned out all connectors and still have problem. Decided to look at Hayne manual and was able to check left hand switch. It seems fine. So I pulled turn and horn fuses, still getting indicators dimly lit. So put them back in and removed headlight fuse. Indicators went off. So off to youtube to see what's next. I am guessing a short on the headlight circuit, fixing it is another thing.
