    HI,

Looking to go from London to Northern Ireland to get a bike - did not want to ride it back and was thinking of renting a trailer or some kind of a van that i could strap the bike down in..

Anyone got any idea's? wanted to keep costs down..

Any normal size Van will do the job mate . They all have hooks for straps . Ask if they can supply a ramp or just get hold of a scaffold blank and your good to go

Trailer should be cheaper to hire, but you are limitted to 50mph !!! Van not as secure, unless you hire or borrow a cradle to strap front end to. Usually people strap it on sidestand and have a mattress either side.

I was checking the drive \ costs to Belfast!

    350miles driving + ferry crossing:

£90 fuel + £240 ferry crossing (same dayish)...+ Van hire...?

is the above right or does it sound way off?

Even if i wanted to fly up there for a day to look at the bike and fly back its near £180 easyjet)

I did post up on Shiply Courier Services | Man With A Van | UK Delivery Companies - Shiply ..not sure if its reliable or not but someone quoted £175 to have the bike delivered to the UK ??

May be worth looking at some of the specialist bike transportation companies , as it will work out a lot cheaper than hiring a van/ fuel/ ferry etc etc.

example of one I've used but there are quite a few.

I recenlty had the same issue, not as far as your bike is, but in the end i could not get exactly what i wanted so i just drove up to the place with my wife and rode the bike back, less hassle, cheaper and i knew it would get back as i wanted.

Park your van on mainland side of irish sea and go as a foot passenger, get the guy your buying off to pick you up, or get a cab, Ride the bike to the ferry then load into the van to get it home. Costs must be loads cheaper.
