......for a drizzly Thursday morning :D

By my reckoning, based on my usual point of laying the bike up for winter around the middle of October, there are only around 16 weeks left of riding before that awful slog of inactivity during the cold months [IMG]

I've done a pretty good job so far this year of making myself get up and go ride on those moments when I'm comfy on the couch etc but I'm going at it with a vengeance now. Time's a wasting, boys and girls :D

Speaking of which. Does anyone else do anything special to lay their bike up or do you just park it up?

    I normally,

    - Change the oil and filter
    - Give it a final clean and a coat of wax
    - Put a thick plastic bag over the end of the exhaust and tape it up tight
    - Put the Optimate on
    - Get it up on its rear paddock and front headstock stands
    - Breathable cover over it

This year I'm thinking of removing the battery and taking it into the house as the cold last year ronnied the battery on my R6. Also thinking of adding some fuel stabiliser on the last fill up. Anyone used that stuff?

I live too close to my inlaws to have the bike laid up. So I keep it pointed at the garage door with the optimate quick release cable attached for those occasions when this part of the estuary isn't underwater.

It's a thought. My short arsey legs might leave me marooned up there though.

Fuel stabiliser: being in the marine trade, we have a lot of powerboats come in for winterisation and winter storage. Since Ethanol has been introduced into fuel, it causes huge problems if the fuel isn't treated with a fuel stabiliser/storage solution.
Have a quick look at the Mercury Marine wesbite for further info:
Ethanol Fuels FAQs | Storage & Maintenance MerCruiser FAQs | Mercury Marine
We sell gallons of Quicksilver Quickstor fuel stabiliser and it works a treat.

Seeing as I've managed a whole 7 rides this year, I better get may arse in gear.

    Winter storage:
    - Wash & wax
    - Clean & lube the chain
    - Run the fuel down
    - Front & Rear paddock stands
    - Remove battery & bring it in to the house
    - Waterproof, breathable cover
    - 2 disc locks & python chain through a ground anchor
    - Start counting the days until mid-March

Keep mine ready to go - if there isn't salt on the road (sometimes still go out) I generally ride all year round, love a cold sunny winter ride!
