Worth checking all wiring and connections, especially the grounds/neg. Is any of the wiring getting warm?
Looking at your second picture again it appears the case has been re sealed (visible sealant)- Looks like Craig's advice is what's needed.

I'd check the torque on the bolts first mate, If it had covers on and then removed before selling they may not tight. If their loose, nipping them...
