42 tooth rear Sprocket on the 2020 blade

    Hi all, i picked up my 2020 CBR1000RR-R yesterday from Crescent Honda in Southampton yesterday and i am very impressed with it..... the front end seems so planted too :)
    Yes i know you need to ride it like a 600, but i hear if i replace the rear sprocket to a 42 tooth then this will drive the same as the 2022 blades? If this is the case?? will i need a speedo healer?

    The revision for 2022 MY is to go from a 40T rear sprocket to a 43T, I believe.

    A change to the gearing here, although it looks like the stock gearing in the USA is different. :confused:

    The stock gearing on my 2020 is 16/43 the dealer told me to put a 42 tooth on the rear.

    what is the stick gearing for the 2022 model?

    what is the stock gearing for the 2022 model?

    According to everything I've seen the revisions made to the gearing for 2022 is to change the rear sprocket from 40T to 43T. I haven't checked an original 2020 model to see if the rear is a 40T though. The usual criticism of the 2020 model is that the gearing is too long, hence the change to 43T. Maybe your bike has been changed already? Going from 43T to 42T would lengthen the gearing again, so the wrong way. :confused:

    Have a look here for the changes for 2022. The gearing is mentioned at about 3:25.

    Ok, so after investigating….. my gearing is stock 16/40….. so I’ve ordered a 43T sprocket from RRRPS
    I will post up my findings soon

    You might need a new chain too.

    How is your bike behaving with the new gearing? I've heard that changing the gearing can affect the traction control and quickshifter. I'm planning on changing the gearing on mine when I get it to 15/42.

    Tbh, traction control works fine as does the QS. Yes I have got the standard chain, and putting a bigger rear sprocket did shorten the wheel base.
    But the bike seems to be operating fine with no issues

    but could you still the correct amount of slack in the chain

    Well I’ve now got the blade geared 15/43 and what a difference!! I just need to get a speedo healer now

    I thought the speed was picked up by the sensor on the front wheel, not calculated from engine speed and selected gear?

    Well the speedo is out, so I’m guessing the speedo pick up is from the engine somewhere

    jay did you have to bye a new chain when you went 15/43,and how much of a diffrence did it make,,how far out is the speedo also whats the pitch of the std chain ie 520/525/530

    The std chain is 525. You can calculate the distance between the sprocket centres using a bit of trigonometry if you ignore the slack and chain wear. However, GearingCommander has a tool with the calculation built in so you don't have to bother. I had a go out of interest and I get the same result. Going from 16/40 to 15/43 brings the rear wheel in by fractionally under 9mm. The 2020 RR-R has speed sensors on both the front and rear wheels, so if they are used to display the actual speed, the reading on the dash should be unaffected by changes in gearing. That's not to say it is accurate though. Speedometers in the EU must never read low but are allowed to read high by up to 10% + 4kmh, so an indicated 62 mph could be as low as 54mph.

    thanks for the feed back on the sprockets etc,now i need to order the sprockets,where did you buy yours from
