I have an original one, about 9 years old. Still working etc, but no longer supported by apple. Hooks with the iPad and iPhones.
I will get the latest one in the near future.

    I suppose it depends...

I'm guessing you'll only benefit from the 4K if your TV supports it (SISO)
What are you hoping to watch using the ATV in 4K? ...I mean a lot of the newer 'smart' TV's have a Netflix & Prime Video client pre-installed

Having said all that, I watch Netflix, racing and PL football in 4K whenever possible and the difference is stunning...so yeah, go for it!

I've played with a few 4K ATV boxes, nice bit of tech and pretty fast.

I bought a new Sony TV in March; it's and Android TV which is absolutely brilliant. It's got all the popular apps already built in including Netflix, Prime Video, You Tube, VLC....I can install stuff from the Google Play store too.
I've connected an SSD HDD to it and play Blu Ray films via VLC.
I can stream from my iPhone, iPad laptop the fekkin works via the built in Chromecast
I've got an IPTV subscription running through IPTV Extreme client as well

....no need for anything else really

What I'm trying to say is check out the spec of your TV and probably wait until you've got it up and running before going for the Apple TV, you may find you dont need it.

lol, Hitch obviously has sussed what a Smart TV can really do these days.

@paul1966 Like Hitch says, check what Apps your TV has as most 4K TV's will already have 4k Netflix, Prime and Panasonic's also have 4K YouTube, a 4K Web Browser and a mobile App for streaming from iOS or Android phones/tablets.
