hello all. Due yearly oil change. I normally use motul semi 5100 10/40. Used this in previous R1 and last year in 2009 rr9. Bike has 9k on it. 6k when I bought it. It has always had a click sound when on / off throttle at low revs. Just wondering if any of you advise on different oil. Bike burns no oil with this oil.

Avoid Castrol, it seems to make the Honda gearboxes very notchy.
    I use Motul fully synthetic.

Good question. Can one use fully synthetic? Does it not damage the engine?

Yes fully synthetic made from ester base prolongs oil life, it extends oil changes. It does not damage clutches or engines, it just costs more.

Brand doesn't really matter ... You should be looking at oil specs and ensuring it is a fully ester fully synthetic oil which is stable for much longer than required service internals ... Unlike semi-synthetics which break down quickly ...

So yes, you can run it on either but if you want the best then buy a fully synthetic full ester oil ...

    Motul 7100
    Motul 300v
    Castrol Power Racing
    Silkolene Pro Race

And so on ... Plenty out there and cost barely anymore than an inferior semi-synthetic which are essentially mineral base oils with additives ...

    Your choice ;)

The shop that sold me the bike just changed mine with Putoline DX4 semi synth. I'll run it for a 1000 mile then I'll probably change to Silkolene Comp 4 fully synth as it's what I usually use.

I've always used Castrol Power 1 Racing and never had any problems with it. Gear changes are nice and slick but that might have something to do with the HM GP shifter:)

motul 300v ( got a few gallons well cheap just before chrimbo) otherwise Silkolene comp or pro 4.
Also used Putoline nanotech which is also good. Just buy whatevers on offer!

My preference is 10w40 over 10w30
