Any comments on the S1000R ?

Liking the whole sit-up riding position, with big horsepower, style of riding - also looking for a bit more refinement than my current GSX-S.

    Thanks
    Matt

I have an S1000XR and have had a test ride on the single R Mattie. Good bikes, busy engines though. You don't get the silky smooth throttle and grunt you get with the blade. The engines are manic and leave you wondering if they're about to explode! Get your head round this though and they are a great hoot.

The R wasnt quite as comfy as I expected a naked to be, the pegs felt quite high and tucked. But that is in comparison to my XR which is mega comfy.

Electronics are brilliant, QS, cruise control and heated grips should be standard on all premium bikes IMHO.

Service at BMW is first rate, not that I've had any faults to go to them over but a look on the forums show you they don't muck about when faults are concerned.

Go and test ride one, have a go on an XR aswell. Perhaps look at the MT10 too.

Would love my blade engine in the XR.

Thanks Charlie - interesting comments, especially about the electronics being good, and reassuring about any service issues.

Agreed about the Fireblade motor - my 2015 was so smooth at all speeds, superb. My thinking is that these Euro 4 and then Euro 5 regs will mean that we will probably not see its like again.

I suppose the R still has a bit of attitude about it ! - but the XR is a bit big for me. I have tried the MT-10 but thought the BMW might be the best overall package - price is pretty good value as well.

Thanks also Jay - I remember the teasing about BMWs when I had my Blade !. The RR is another option as they have a lovely red/white/black one on the showroom floor at the local dealers - and only about £1,600 more than the R Sport model that I am looking at. Looks nice.

Anyway, the local BMW dealership took some pictures of my GSX-S to send off, to see what they will offer me for it - and then take it from there.

A BMW, who would of thought it eh ! :D

The only thing I'd say Matt, is check out what ever dealer you will be using.

I used 3 and only one was any use, bowker in Preston are full of shite and liars. Tried selling me a 1 owner bike that in fact had 2 owners, ended up buying for marshal web in Grimsby (great dealer) took bike in to bowker for warranty work (I've been a mechanic for 25 years) and shitbthey tried telling me was unreal and fobbed me off on warranty and wouldn't give me a loan bike cos I didn't buy from them.

Took my mint not even 2 year old bike to williams motorrad in Manchester for service and warranty check over. Saw them loading up the front and spinning up rear on customers bike, to busy having their breakfast to talk to me. Went to pick bike up and they left it out in rain. Checked it over and they had used a pump spray with tfr or wheel acid and left it on to long staining the frame and other parts. They tried cleaning it off and made it worse by scratching it all. The bike had 4K worth of extras ruined. I was treated and spoken to like shite, I paid out over £400 on 2 independent inspections which both said parts need replacing so I got a quote that came out at 18k. Williams and Bmw uk didn't wanna know.

Williams had the same bike in stock for sale, so I said swap all my extras over and I'll take that they said no.

I refused to take the bike back till they sorted it out and they tried charging me storage charges.

Dont get me wrong I loved the bike but when a dealer writes it off then try's fobbing you off.

BMW UK was no use or didn't give a shit.

I ended up getting paid out 16k after 7 months from williams insurance even after being told by dealer I will get fuck all, even tho I had a signed letter from Williams stating they had caused the damage and will put it right.

Got paid out on a Friday and bought the aprilia rsv4 on the Saturday .

What a friggin' fiasco! As a side note, if I saw dealer's staff 'spinning up' up one of my bikes, I reckon I'd just lose it! Then, of course, it would be me in trouble:(.

So true though. A good, reputable dealer is a valuable resource.

Williams did my first service because I haggled it into the price. Never again. Young lad brought the bike back round to the shop front and he hammered it up the road and then nearly pulled a stoppie into the car park. I had a word with him but didnt grass him up, wish I had now.

Oh dear - I can see I might have touched a raw nerve there with these dealership issues - shocking - and I thought BMW dealerships were full of POSH people :D

I think I had better do a Google search of our local BMW dealership called Jacksons and see what they have been up to !!

I actually like the basic Tuono rather than the Factory (for what I want). The Factory version does not have any luggage carrying capacity it seems to me, and it is much more visible than the standard one. You see, I am not sure the Tuono would still be there in the morning if I parked it outside a motel overnight.

Had mine for 2500 miles , love it. As said electrics are fantastic , cruise control is without doubt the best thing a bike can have , but the quick shifter and down shifter is brilliant.
Only bad point was the mirrors !! You can’t see F all with the standard ones , hence the mega bar end mirrors.
The brakes are quite frankly amazing !! That said they are the same as the RR which has 199 bhp so they should cope with 165 bhp the R has.
Luggage wise I use Kreiga bags there are straps under the seat.
Btw launch control is a right laugh too BCCC08EA-86EE-41BD-BC0E-FFBC829A9944.jpeg

Thanks for all that useful info, which helps to settle worries about whether it will all be all right !

Like that colour as well. The local dealer said that he will be phoning around to see if he can find a new one of that colour already available.

The motor looks nice - later found out that the design bods knew the RR motor would also be used in a Super Naked R version, and that the motor would be more visible - so the clever bods designed the motor to look nice as well. Clever stuff !

Anyway, the dealership are on the case trying to get a decent price for my GSX-S and trying to source a new R Sport version in the Motorsport colour scheme like yours.

    Thanks.
