Stuck a piece of paint protection film on my rear sets heel plates over a year ago and it’s still hanging on, a couple of quid from ebay if it doesn’t work on the frame you won’t have lost much. Maybe give it a go on mine tomorrow just out of curiosity.
Ok tryed a sample on the frame from a little off cut that was lying around, you can obviously make it as big or small as you like. Sticks to the frame no problem, if you go down this route just make sure you clean the surface probably.
I think it is called 'Helicopter Tape'. Example : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3M-Stick...-Frame-Protection-Tape-Protector/282919262411
That would certainly do the job probably better quality than I have. Think this is what I got. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RHINO-HI...hash=item3f593a62b9:m:mGAVP3z01dBGBixTH-m2ClA It has a backing film and gloss side protection film to protect from scratching whilst squeegying during installation. Fairly easy to apply, Clean the surface I use isopropyl alcohol, make a solution of water with a couple of drops of washing up liquid in a small spray bottle, spray surface which your applying to, remove backing film (you'll know when you've removed the backing film as the surface of the tape will be slightly sticky, try a sample piece first). Spray film with solution and apply it to your frame, you should then be able to slide it into position, squeegee out the excess solution and let it dry. If any corners don't stick immediately put pressure on it with your finger for a minute or so, remove protection film. If you think you can apply it without sliding into place you can just use water, the washing up liquid is just to make it slide. Plenty info on youtube.
Both of you are bang on. I have used PVC Book Cover for some time now. I started using it as protection from stones on the front edge of the fairing belly pan, but have since made templates for tank protection from knee rub. (I am not a fan of the Stomp Grips etc.) Book cover is a manageable film if used with care and patience. The pic here is my 2018 tank. The film is precisely cut to fit within the edges of the blue. Even if you save and enlarge the pic you will not even notice it. Whether or not it will turn yellow I seriously doubt, as this bike rarely sees sun!
