Just thought I'd write up my grips experience.

As my bike is around 6 years old I thought it time to change the grips as the standard ones would probably have become a little harder by now. Off to Wigan Honda I rode and picked up a set of Renthal Soft compound (Cost around 7 quid). After fitting, the squeeze test confirmed that they were indeed much softer than the originals, however, the diameter of the grip was a little smaller than the original and it wasn't comfortable for my size L-XL hands.

Note:- If you feel like you're having to squeeze your hands whilst riding it is not good. Your hands should be completely relaxed.

I had a look around and found comments on US forums that Progrips GP Gel were a little bigger so ordered a pair of those up. (Cost around 13 quid plus shipping from ebay).

They arrived yesterday and immediately looked bigger than the Renthals and more like the size of the original grips. I fitted them this morning and just went for a spin into town and back. The grips feel great, do a good job of absorbing the vibrations, but most importantly allow me to really relax my hands when riding.

In short, if you have L-XL size hands and you're thinking of changing your grips, try out the Progrips.

    Brief Installation guide;

    Old Grip Removal
    1. Remove bar ends
    2. Steal some hairspray from the missus
    3. Slide a thin screwdriver under the old grip (Be careful not to pierce the grip if you want to keep them)
    4. Liberally spray her 5 quid can of hairspray inside the grip
    5. Pull the screwdriver out
    6. Twist and pull at the grip until it pops off.

    New grip installation
    1. Clean the handle bar and throttle tube.
    2. Spray the handle bar and inside the smaller grip with more hairspray
    3. Push and twist on.
    4. Repeat 1,2,3 for the throttle side.
    5. Allow grips to fully dry so that you can no longer twist them.
    6. Return Hairspray
    7. Go for a blast so you can't hear the missus moaning that you've used all of her hairspray.

Allow the grips to fully dry before riding. If the grip slips and you crash it's not my fault!

I'd be very interested too, I've large hands, and since adding the clipons I'm finding vibrations an issue, as the grips which came with them are very hard.

it helps to slide the grips on,then dries without any residue.

cant beat an air line putting grips on though.

Are the differences between the 717, 732 etc just the cosmetic design?

    Thank you :)

I ordered some from here, on the ebay site there was some small print saying if they got lost in the post then they were not responsible, which I didn't like.

I got an email confirming my order then about an hour later got another saying they had been dispatched!

So as long as they are not being walked from Italy, then they should be here soon :)
