Boring question I know, but faced with using either an OEM Honda oil filter or K & N (made in China) version, which would you use?

I know K & N rate highly with their air filters, but not too much is posted about their oil filters.

For what it's worth, I have one of each. No need to ask why; put it down to OCD to evaluate the better product!

When it comes to the oil filter, I always get stock.

Cant comment on the performance but not too keen on the tightening nut on the K&N. When painted it easily rounds off, much prefer OEM

HiFlo are plenty good enough for me. I usually have a few spare, but mainly because they often come with the oil.
The nut on the K&N though is to undo the filter as it's known to rupture the can if you use it to tighten the filter.

I use OEM or hiflo. I always tighten the filter by hand with a piece of sand paper.

Always used k&n on mine. No problems getting them off but they generally only see 2k miles between changing.

Hadn't considered HiFlo. Too late for this change. I thought the nut on the K & N would be a bonus, but I accept it could be a problem to the heavy-handed. I'll use the OEM and put the K & N in my 'Bonus Box' for when I sell the bike to @Lozzy!:D;)

Yep, I can well believe that.

I've bought a couple of bikes from Yorkshire and seen, first-hand, the results of that philosophy!!:D

HiFlo for me too. Can't justify the extra money on OEM or K&N considering it does the same thing.

Which bike is it for @nigelrb ??

Will second what others have said about Hiflo. ......used them on the oil changes that I've done myself on other bikes but the Honda always gets serviced by the dealer so gets an oem!

For the 2011, Paulo. It's an interim oil change. Like you, I use dealers for the major work. A lot of it is just a PIA!!:)

I use hiflo KN etc and do about 2k a year, I think if you are low mileage and go for any of the major brands you wont have an issue

That was worth a watch, would have been interesting to compare with OEM

    Think i'll stick with HiFlow
