can the rear shock be removed without taking the exhaust off. 2012 blade.
I'm planning on greasing the pivot points.

You can see what space is around the shock from this.

According to the video you should be able to do that without removing the exhaust ;)
I removed my shock this winter but had the exhaust off already.
But I think it's an easier task when the exhaust is off, and you can clean everything around too!

Not sure if same applies to a 2012 bike but I had to remove the exhaust on my 2008 to swap the shock for a newer model. Certainly makes life a lot easier to remove it.

I've removed the shock today and the exhaust had to come off. If the bolts in the bottom linkage had been inserted from the other side, the zorst could've stayed on. Which means I wouldn't need to buy a new exhaust clamp now.

I was staggered also. I received the standard exhaust of my 2011 in a box when I bought the bike. No wonder owners are so keen to get rid of them. It's all the emission control junk that bulks them up. I'm sure back in the pre-emissions days there were only a couple of kilos. An outer chrome pipe and a length of perforated pipe inside.
