Sigma Performance Slipper Clutch for CBR1000RR 08+ EVO

Thank you for choosing a quality Sigma Performance Competition part. The slipper clutch we sell is designed to help the chassis of your Honda deal with the conflicting loads placed upon it in situations where you are decelerating quickly and still seeking maximum traction, stability and grip from the bike. The Centre of the clutch now has a ball and ramp mechanism. When the rear wheel wants to turn faster than the engine this lifts the centre of the clutch until it pushes the pressure plate off the clutch friction plate pack and allows it to slip. The thickness and condition of the clutch pack is critical to the correct operation of the clutch and should be checked regularly. The clutch may be damaged if acceptable tolerances are not maintained. For more information on slipper clutches and the latest race set ups see the slipper clutch section of www.sigmaperformance.com

A competent Honda mechanic should assemble the clutch as follows.

    a) Read the instructions and look at the photos first. Check the set includes all parts.

    b) Gain access to the Clutch in accordance with the Honda Workshop manual.

    c) Using Honda Workshop tools remove old clutch centre.

    d) Clean all Loctite from the threads of the gearbox shaft. Clean the threads on shaft with brake cleaner..

    e) Assemble the clutch back plate, ball bearings and clutch centre, ensure the balls are in their pockets; make sure that you line up the marks during assembly. Use three tube spacers and spring retainers as temporary holders to hold the parts together during assembly.(A)

    f) Put the clutch centre on the shaft ensuring at all times that all the balls remain in the bottom of their grooves (B). Put the supplied large washer on the shaft next (C).

    g) Place the ‘octopus’ spring over the end of the gearbox shaft with its ‘feet’ pressing down into the machined grooves between the pillars in the centre of the clutch (D). Loctite (Loctite No. 620) the supplied nut onto the top of the assembly (E) at the torque settings (127 Nm) while holding the unit with a Clutch holding tool (F) .

    h) For the avoidance of doubt the order of the parts, starting from the clutch centre is original large washer; octopus spring and finally (loctited) the new nut. IMPORTANT, the large washer acts as a travel limiter for the clutch lift mechanism. It must be on the shaft immediately next to the clutch centre.

    i) Remove the three spacers used as temporary retainers (G).

    j) Ensure the clutch centre freely rises against the octopus spring. This slipper clutch is designed to use STD clutch plates and clutch springs from the CBR1000RR 2004-07 model (some Sigma versions include these springs ). IMPORTANT! For the clutch to operate safely the order of the clutch plates has to be changed from standard so the large I/D plate and its steel rings (F) that is usually in the first position has to go in as the second friction plate. Install another friction plate as first, then a steel plate, and after that the friction plate with the bigger inside diameter and steel rings. Install all other clutch plates in same position as before.

    k) Install push pin to push rod.

    l) Mount pressure plate to clutch drum. Fit clutch springs ( CBR1000RR 04_07 model inclusive), use the kit spring retainers, fix all with M6 bolts with torque 8 – 10 Nm.

    m) Check correct clearance between last plate and pressure plate in hole in pressure plate. Correct clearance is around 1.3 mm, minimum is 0.5mm, a set of new friction plates may be required if the clutch clearance is at the lower end of the range. (For more detail see the instructions and photos on the on the CD included).

    n) Use new clutch cover gasket.

    o) Refit Clutch cover according to Honda workshop manual.

    LIST OF PARTS

1 pc. clutch drum 1 pc. Octopus spring 1 pc. pressure plate

5 pcs. spring buckets 5 pcs. bolt M6

This is a competition part; we recommend the clutch and the plate pack be stripped,

measured and inspected for any problems regularly.

Cheers si, yes it's all very confusing. It uses 04-07 springs. Still can't work out what way I need to put my friction plates in as after 08 they changed the design.
