I bought this bike in may this year. and I love this beautiful machine

my first f**k up is I share a garage in London with 3 other riders, so some times I have used a rag to clean my bike and smeared grease all over the bike, in hindsight we now have a system to keep them separate but not after I put two scratches in my tank, I cant seem to find a replacement one any where with out paying £800+ for one from Honda. can you help

second of all I have the dreaded oil problem, about 1ltr per 1000 miles! buuut if and very often im mashing it up in the country side I will only get about 700 too 600 miles, I had it tuned by Chris Gunsters in Grimsby (air filter, Scorpion exhaust and PC5) he does most of the TT bikes and Guy Martins bike, he said whilst it could be the extra piston ring that is needed he thinks that cos it tends to be when we are hard accelerating and let the revs die it then smokes he thinks it could be the rod seals and if I want that fixed I should get the cams and valves re done at the same time, but that s a whole top end off (about £800-£1500 depending what I choose) any help on these issues please

    thanks

Hi have you thought about introducing yourself in the Newbie section first?

When I saw the title in the latest posts, I thought was going to be "how do I make it as fast as the Repsols".
Yeah as above an introduction would be nice, rather that giving the impression that you only want to be here for a one off piece of advice. While you are most welcome, it would seem only polite to do so.

I think its a case of keep putting the oil in.. No garrentee its going to fix it IMO or could be something else when he gets in there. Its a known issue with the 08, whats the official fix for this?

I am very sorry, I am usually very polite.

Im from London but grew up in lincs where I still go riding.

I'm 25 and as mentioned have a 2008 CBR1000rr HRC, have had it tuned with a new exhaust and air filter with a PC5. which I cant explain how much need that's from new.

    hope this is better lol

If you take it to Honda they will do an oil consumption survey with you and if at the level you are stating they are replacing the engines FOC. Spoke to my local Honda dealer about it but I am with the 600-800ml per 1000miles which is acceptable oil usage to them.

yeah well I have no warranty on my bike so would Honda cover it,
when I spoke to Honda locally they said that they would have no way of measuring the oil consumption and it will be at my own cost.

what oil survey can they do?

So if that is acceptable, what's with all the flapper shit they fit to them for so called emissions reduction? At the price of the stuff we use, that's horrendous. I spoze you never have to change the oil, just the filter as the oil is changed by rotation.

This is for bikes outside of warranty as mine is. Basically they check your oil and mileage and you pop back in every few hundred miles for them to check again. If it is one of the known oil burners then they replace it for you. It has been done a few times already as my dealership are aware of it and mentioned it to me

So a track day between measurements should do it then.

Welcome to the forum mate, ref the scratches there are plenty of places that do scuff and scratch work pretty cheap.

Ref the oil like the others have said measure exactly how much your losing and see your dealer and don't get fobbed off
