Hi, been a long time since I was here and now have a 2014 blade again. Bought a few months ago and been parked up. Went to use it today and simply can’t undo the steering lock.

it was fine when I parked it up. I’ve wiggled it, used both keys (which work in fuel cap and seat lock) I’ve tried lubricating, and moving bars left and right whilst wiggling but no joy at all.

Any ideas how to get the lock off so I can at least move the bike? Thansk in advance

Had the same issue with mine as I was selling it. Best advice is to get the fairing off for easier access to the lock. From there a locksmith may be able tp help, otherwise £500 and a new lockset!!

Exactly what happened to me. My 2012 steering lock started playing up to the point I didn't trust locking it after a ride. I px'd it and mentioned it to the dealer but he just shrugged it off. If memory serves it started playing up after a light T bone I had so probably exacerbated something it was prone to anyway.

You could try cracking off the headstock and fork bolts.

I had problems with my.steering lock.but luckily didn't lock steering. It was barrel in mine . It did unlock after waggling key around while apply pressure up and down. I sent it to get it rebuilt and touch wood has been spot on since.
You may be able to take the ignition barrel off maybe so you can use bike.

Ok, so got a motorcycle locksmith round who couldn’t unpick it. Had resided contact would need to strip it all down and start drilling stuff out. Not my natural habitat tbh and probably requires more knowledge than I have.

I ordered some graphite powder. It arrived last night. Stuck a load in and kept wiggling. Used a bit more pressure than I was comfortable with (thought I’d snap the key) and lo and behold it freed up, happy days ish.

Lock very sticky but at least steering lock now not on. If I go to turn key left I can feel it doesn’t like it.

So what are my options now. Can I remove lock assembly more easily now. Is that the big nut at top of forks and then the two Allen key bolts? Thanks for advice here btw

If the on off feels fine then I’d try to get some thick oil / grease in the steering lock pin area. Stick it in oven 50 degrees centigrade and try to get something like acf50 / white grease spray or chain lube in around the pin.

thank you. Do you mean remove the lock/hiss assembly and try warming that up and greasing the steering lock pin? Sounds like a good idea. If so, is removing the lock assembly easy enough? It looks like the big 40mm nut, and 2 Allen bolts… plus some wiring from the hiss to under the tank. Is that all. Won’t affect head bearings?

All I would say is mine was like this. I did everything to try help it acf 50 etc etc and it still went eventually.
I sent it somewhere to get rebuilt they did it but said if it failed again would need new barrel.

Yeah the whole top yoke A bit of heat and gravity to try and get some long term lubrication where it’s needed . Remove the hiss if you like but I think it probably gets just as hot on a hot day in traffic.
This is the simplest diy solution I can think off.
