Saw a green today. I am tempted. However, it is British, so probably unreliable. It had a colour coded nose cone, gold forks and Brembo brakes. I might chop the blade in for one next summer (2020)! Any thoughts ? I tried to upload a picture, this site would not let me, says, file too big!
I half like the Triumphs. Have seen Thruxtons with clipons at my local dealer. I think they'd be much more reliable than the old ones, but some time ago on this forum there was mention of corrosion on the newer ones.
Brilliant. Sounds great. I need one with the nose cone on. Are they comfy to ride and resonably fast anf poerful? Can you put a power commander on it?
I haven't ridden one, GG. My interest is in the yet-to-be-released 765 Daytona. I'd be sure they're fast and powerful though; just a different level of power being a thumping twin which I gauge from the difference between my aprilia V-twin compared to inline fours. Not sure you'd need a power commander unless you went changing exhausts/air filters etc. And looking at the video, they're a carburettor model so a PC would be next to useless (in my opinion).
Not sure they are carburettor - I think they are just a very good likeness with fuel injection inside. I was talking to someone at the cafe (standing looking at bikes) and I said the same thing - carbs ! only to be told no, just a very good look alike ! All of those range of Triumphs look very nice - nice paint jobs.
Good pick up @Mattie660 , totally correct. I've always been on the lookout for fake breasts but never even thought I'd have to prepare for fake carburettors Thruxton 1200 R SPECIFICATIONS Type Liquid cooled, 8 valve, SOHC, 270° crank angle parallel twin Max Power EC 97 PS/ 96 Bhp (72 kW) @ 6750 rpm Max Torque EC 112 Nm @ 4950 rpm System Multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection Exhaust Chromed 2 into 2 exhaust system with twin chrome silencers
Shouldn’t need a power commander as most triumphs can be mapped by the dealer for exhausts and filters, I say mapped but a map like dynojet do for the exhaust and filter but from the dealer
I've ridden a Thruxton - very different riding experience to a Blade, I'd recommend you go and test ride one before getting too excited in case it's not your bag. Yes, it's fast - in a torquey way. Makes a great noise. Makes you feel cool. But doesn't like corners.
All the reviews I've seen/read say they're OK....but quite uncomfortable. Regularly beaten by the BMW R9T when put head to head. The new Triumph Speed Twin looks to be a cracker though. Probably have to wait 12 months to see the speed twin in a tricked up version with Ohlins/Brembos. I cant help but feel this style of bike would leave you wanting more after the honeymoon period and should be reserved for 2nd bike status
I have ridden one while one of my other triumphs was in for a service, it was okay but just okay I think at even at my age (52) I would soon get bored of one if it was my only bike. Triumphs for me look great on the out side but suffer big time with corrosion and that's without them seeing salt or a lot of rain. For the same money get a 2nd hand Norton.
