Ok I have BT 015's on the blade at the mo. If they are anything like the 016 I had on my Speed triple they won't last more than 2k or there abouts.

So As I'm hoping to do a few trackdays this year (a first for me) and mostly do fast road riding in the dry (so no commuting). I would rather have more grip and less life out of a tyre.

I was a fan of bridgestone until i tried the 2CT's out.

What do people recommend? is it better to go for a more track day tyre? I like the thought of better grip on track and when out on a warm summers day?

    thinking:
    Bridgestone BT-003RS
    Michelin Power One
    Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa
    Metzeler Racetec

    What do you use?

    Hey mate,

I'm going to get the Dunlop Sportsmarts next as I need to get a bit more life out of them.

Have you considered the Dunlop GP211 Racer? Supposed to be very good trackday/fast road tyre and with the Ntec technology which means you can lower pressures at the track to around 20psi for an increased contact patch.

But pretty much most of the above you've listed will give you lots of grip.

Any modern sports bike tyre should be better than most riders grip wise!

I've got Dunlops qualifiers at the moment, and can't wait for them to be changed.

Best tyre i've used is the Metzeler M5. Seemed grippier than Bridgestones and Pirellis that i used on the previous bike. So, Metzeler m5 for me.

I had the Qialifiers on my speed triple and OE tyres and hated them also

    Will do mate

Heard very good things about the GP211 Racer

I use Dunlops Qualifier IIs(because SportSmart not available in SA) for wet and dry commute and fast road riding and GP Racer D211 for track use.
note Qualifier IIs not the same as Qualifiers..if thats not obvious :D

    I'd advise
SportSmart or GP Racer D211. Try both, though GP Racer is much more track focused.

No Im not sponsored by Dunlop :) but Michelin has let me down(literrally) and Metzelers K3 lasted me around 2500 kms and then it was totally illegal.

Frankly the new tyres are more talented than most riders so its down to mileage and preference. I prefer Dunlops and the GP Racers rock on track!

    Hi Remal

Dunlop D211 are currently the best track/fast road tyres on the market - however expensive £300 -£350 per set
Michelin are excellent but don't offer much feel especially when they are just about to break loose
Metzeler Racetec - excellent tyres, same compound as Pirelli
Pirelli Supercorsa BSB (same tyre as Supercorsa SP but £50 per pair cheaper - marketing gimmick) - brilliant track/fast road tyre for only £210 per set.

If money is no object go for the Dunlop D211 every time, however otherwise go for the Pirelli BSB, you won't be disapointed unless your name is ROSSI!!

PM me if you want any more advice on tyres.

    Cheers

    Rich

Tyres are very personal depending on what feel you like and what sort of mileage you want out of them, price & temperatures you ride in etc etc. And importantly how quick you are, be honest with this one.
I know in most situations a sports tyre is more than enough for me although it is nice to have a stickier tyre on track to give you more confidence.
Sounds like you might be ok with a stickier tyre if you only go on track and out on warm days. But keep in mind with cooler conditions you will probably be quicker on more road biased tyres on the road like the Dunlop sportsmart. Upto you

Handy site for looking at tyres they have some Pirelli corsa BSB's in stock

I LOVE the Michelin Power Pures. I've had 3 sets now, on both my Blade and my old SRAD Gixxer. Sure, they wont give you as much outright grip as a pure race tyre on the track, but near as damn it for most riders. Plus road use is amazing and wet grip is great - warm up from cold is also not an issue like the BT 003rs for example.

Note: I got 5000 miles out of the front on my Gixxer and 3500 out of the rear, daily commute and motorway. (they were buggered by the time i changed them though!)

    Hi Matt

I'm not a dealer just an addict!!!
    Track day addict.
Been through a large amount of tyres during the past few years.
Just my opinion and also the opinion of mates who do a lot of trackdays and fast road riding.

    Cheers
    Rich

Err... i think i've just found my favorite tyre!

Took the afternoon off and went from London down to Box Hill, then through Petworth on to Midhurst on the A272 up to Winchester and back to Farnham.

the roads were lovely and dry and they tyres felt silky smooth, sure footed and confidence inspiring. Really really like them.

I'll see how they perform on track but i have very high hopes

Awesome!! Do you have a hugger on yours? Wonder if they will fit with the hugger as they are a different profile (190/55 instead of 190/50).

Cool. The treads also look very nice, I can pretend I'm a real racer at work the next day when I park next to the other bikes :sarcastic:

    ps, wtf is a 'shortie'?!
