    Hi Guys

Has anyone converted from a 08 standard crappy light weight battery to a larger battery from the 08 ABS version ?

If so what exact parts do I need to convert it across ?

I’ve already bought a brand new battery but it really doesn’t cut the mustard starting my bike..always feels like it’s right on the edge and I’d prefer the security of having a bigger battery from the ABS model.

    Thanks in advance :)

I can't help feeling you must be 'Unlucky'.

Have you considered there might be another fault? Battery drain from a loose earth/connection, or similar? I have non-ABS and have no problem starts in cold or after absence of riding. Further, I don't think your bike's symptoms have been recognised as a general problem.

Perhaps run some tests before dropping money on new battery and carrier etc. Remember also, that the configuration of the battery housing is different in ABS models - the fuse box for instance is located alongside the seat edge, whereas in non-ABS it is at the rear of the seat edge. Sounds as if it could be a major re-work.

    Thanks guys

Yes my charging system is spot on no issues the battery is simply not up to the job, you could look at it as a design flaw in my mind.

Thanks for the info Bonjo, I didn’t realise a conversion was so complicated, I’ll look into the lithium option instead :)

Buy a 09 abs battery tray, and replace the tray in your bike with this. No need to start cutting.

So an 09 battery tray is just a straight swap with an 08 ? Nothing else needed ? Apart from an 09 battery ?

    Thanks

I am not absolutely positive, but I suspect you might still have an issue with the location of various electrical components - the fuse box in particular. On that basis, the simplicity of just a larger battery carrier may not work. See extract from my Owner's Manual:
