I've managed to refrain from purchasing any form of waterproofs since becoming reborn in 2004. However, I have to ride from Lancaster to Portsmouth in May and I don't think my luck is gonna hold out. I am thinking a one piece oversuit, to keep the bulk down. What can you guys recommend? Preferably from experience, any links greatly appreciated. Thanks
If you want to get the bulk down then Aldi have a "mac in a pack" as part of their cycling range in at the moment. Go for a super large jacket & trousers at £10 each and you're sorted.
I purchased an alpine stars wet 2 piece about 3 years ago now for doing the trips abroad and have to say they are a great job! Probably a little bit pricey but they definitely work and because they are designed for motorcyclists they withstand the wind because they are double stitched! I went through around 6 cheap ‘outdoor’ shop sets and they all just rip apart at speed! So can definitely recommend the a stars 2 piece
Rev’it Acid 2 jacket and trousers for me. Rode through a day of torrential rain in Italy and stayed totally dry. Rolls up quite small in their own little carry bags. Breathable too, not like wearing a cheap mac where you slowly start to boil!
If you are still interested in buying waterproof oversuit then this is a nice budgeted offer for you; https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0196ODSC2/ref=twister_dp_update?_encoding=UTF8&th=1&psc=1
I have the same one with fluro orange accents, it is an excellent suit. I wear it when I am teaching in the rain and have yet to find flaw with it.
What did you end up buying @Kevin1 ? Obviously I couldn't contribute to this earlier because I am one of those wusy dry weather only guys.
One pieces are a pain in the arse to get on if it starts raining, Kev. Get these. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/244250 https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/244270 Superb, used them this year, lined, warm, totally waterproof and blocks all the wind. Cheap as chips too. The jacket is great for walking the dog too. Get a medium, they are designed to fit over leathers as is, so no need to go a size up.
I watched the weather forecast very closely and ordered a suit off Sportsbike shop but it didn't arrive in time. The delivery company return it to SBS before i returned from Spain. Fortunately I didn't need one in the end. So i'm back to being a wuss too.
These look good Si. I must admit the over suits I had tried on, were a pain in the arse to get on and off unassisted. Good point about walking the dog. I might get a set for that reason as I don't do rain ont bike.
Couple of years ago I brought a 2 piece set called “two zero”. Used regularly (including one European tour) and described as safety with style their words not mine. Folds up into very small bundle....
