So a friend of mine has picked up this dt 250 . It's been sat in a garden last 5 years and before that 10 years in a shed. It's rough but worth saving. She's asked me to strip and restore the dt but in a flat track style. I've pulled engine out frame and removed swingarm (It was locked solid took heat and 4 t press to shift swing arm spindle. ) forks need new stanchions wheels a rebuild ill make a new loom old one butchered. Gram off to powdercoated soon . Engine is in need of rebore new seals ect but crank is good. On hunt for an exhaust and better tank or ill fit a tank from something similar and make a mount ect .

I get so jealous of these 'projects'. All beyond me without a garage. Can't even find cheap lock-ups any longer:(.

    I think I need a rich cougar:cool:.

I know, @hitch . And I think she has a large garage also.

But you can't be serious. Do you honestly think that I would entertain the love of a woman who etches another guy's name on her seat cowl? That's just one step down from whispering your ex-partner's name in your lover's ear during an amorous moment.

Nah. I got it sorted. Being a lover and not a fighter, I'm waiting for a gal with luscious lips:

Given that a 'Cougar' is traditionally much older than the bloke.....Nigel might want to see if this guys bird is available...

Cheers. I'm not well versed in forensics and pathology. But the tip is worthwhile because I'm now tottering on the edge of whether I'd accept a ladyboy or not. Only problem is I don't like sharing razors:(

Oohh @nigelrb I know of a colleague (AND I'M SHOUTING JUST SO YOU KNOW, IT WAS A COLLEAGUE), who for various unforeseen circumstances ended up in a hotel room with one of them who I imagine must have looked nice.
That in itself was shocking but then he proceeded to tell a few of us, that the following night he ended up in the same bar with same person and because of the previous nights exceptional BJ, he went back again knowing full well what was what...

Don't think they knew each other long enough to share razors tho but I have heard all the tablets stop the hairs from growing and makes them exceptionally hard to distinguish. Unless of course you do the full grab on test ;)

Just made it to the second page of admiring everyone's other bikes and had to smile. What is about old DTs that makes folk think 'flat-tracker'?
Thought I'd stick up a few pics of the one that's in my hall cupboard. Stuck it away last year when I had both the blade and a wee KX to work on.

In my case the idea came from:
    a) My old DT125(had it since '88) was in a horrible state, Had been lying outside forgotton about for years in my parents garden. Bent and rusty forks, rotten spokes on the front, tank was rusty inside and had been dented, filled and repainted so many times it was probably a litre down from it's original meagre capacity.
    b) A mate had an Eliminator 125 similary abandoned in his garden - goosed engine, exhaust and the electrics. I noticed it one day in passing and mentioned it had quite a nice tank. He said to help myself, it was all destined for the cowp.

    Chopitty, choppity. :)

Can't remember what tyres I decided on but they'll be road tyrea and I think the sizes are 110/60-17 front and 120x55-18 rear.

Bought some dirtbike risers and modded them to fit the eliminator's fake billet top yoke. Front mudguard is from a Guzzi Daytona that's another project that's kicking around. Got a fresh one for the Daytona and glued the pieces of this one back together(reinforced with glass inside). Was all I had lying about at the time but I'll likely use the old one from the blade's repsol days instead - it's undamaged). New eliminator fork stantions were a £40 bargain.

There's room(just) in that cowl for a Trailtech Endurance II speedo. I'll move the idiot lights down to the silver area(well, it's not silver anymore but was when I took the picture.

(Going 6v LED with all the lights - chopped up the eliminator taillight and made a oval affair that'll tuck in snug under the rear mudguard. Bought some nice alloy bullet indicators cheap from china and a pair of mirror brackets that I've tweaked and inverted to hang the front indicators off the handlebars. Made aluminium brackets for mountng the original DT headlight.)

Eliminator disk was still ok. Caliper was seized solid and half furry alloy so got a nearly new one from the states. Braided hose is from some Triumph and was part of a linked system - just happened to be the right length with the right angle of fittings. M/C is OEM Brembo off an R6 that I used to use on the zxr(before I upped the caliper size on it and got the RCS19). Reserviour is cheap chinese.

Seat foam has been shaped and contoured since this was taken. I'll be covering it with an antiqued brown goatskin hide that I've had lying around for ages. Will wetform it first before fitting.
While I had the cardboard spraybooth set up I also painted the exhaust, barrel, head and sidecasings, wheels, yokes, brackets, fork legs, the list goes on.... Everything but the tank and mudguards is black. It's all wrapped up and in plastic crates at the moment..

    Other stuff:
Bought some alluminium sheet and cut sidepanels that fit the triangular bits of the frame.
Ditching the airbox and 2 stroke tank. Will be using a pair of these:

...one for 2 stroke and the other as a battery box.
Going with a clamp on filter - that'll clamp onto an FCR from a KX85(the original DT carb was part of the UK restriction setup - and was a piece of junk as well).

Mocked up all this stuff in cardboard to make sure it all fitted and to make a start on the bracketry.

Damn, typing all that has sure put me in the mood. :) There's an Aprilia RS125 cluttering up the rebuild area at the moment but no hurry to get it done. The DT should really have priority - could do with a little city hack.

bit of news on this one . she's now mine and I'm dead excited to have another 2 stroke she's no kr1s or rg ect but I'm still chuffed it won't be a flat track bike. and it won't be standard. first job is getting it aged and a v5 then it's a full strip down and rebuild of the engine.

tinkering around with dt today and I've changed my mind . these are going for good money standard so it's a resto to standard now. I've removed shock which is leaking ill see if I can get it repaired and serviced. swingarm is off . frame and swinger will get blasted and painted . need new spindal to frame and bearings . front end is pitted but ill get it rechromed. wheels have been painted at sometime so ill strip back and see what's what. frame and engine numbers match so I've taken pics and ill send off to vintage jap bike club to get dated and a v5 from dvla. tank has a hole but I'm going to try to repair it and then seal kit ect . only part I'm really missing is an exhaust . looks like I'll have to get one from the states as bugger all over here. cranks good as is barrel so ill fit fresh seals hone barrel and a fresh piston to match . ill send carb off for an ultrasonic clean and see where this all gets us. I'd like her ready for summer sale but I'm in no rush .
