Hi to my fellow riders bought a Fire blade of a friend as a project it had two bent valves front head which i am currently rebuilding but have dropped a clanger ,i didn't separate the valve tops and shims, so I've read some of my Haynes manual for info ,does anyone know of which shim goes where , the sizes are 180 x2 195 x1 190x1 any help appreciated its on a 96 plate P
Welcome! I'm not in anyway mechanical but wouldn't the shim placement depend on the valve clearance required?
Thanks for the reply, I'll check the cold valve clearance, the exhaust valves are new inlet are original and a have been re lapped, as the tops of the valves are recessed for the shim, would it not require a shim so the cover fits over the valve correctly
LOL are you spying on me ?. I've got the inlets sussed out but the exhaust with the 195 &190 shim is giving me no clearance at all so ill be looking at parkers for some slightly smaller shims probably about 170/160
Welcome to the forum! If you have smaller shims on any inlet valves, you may have to borrow them for the exhausts so that you get a measurable clearance. You can then order the correct ones. It may be helpful to make a chart. "Valve number" / "Existing clearance" / "Existing shim" / "Required shim".
