hi im looking for a little help or any ideas , there was like a scraping or summat catching noise on my uncles bike when the front wheel was spinning , so stripped calipers cleaned and new seals etc , wheel bearings seem fine , but noise is still there you cant hear it at speed but when slowing up to junction but soon as you just slightly touch the brakes the noise goes away , so any ideas , thanks .
My first thought would be brake pads lightly rubbing on the disks, this is quite common, especially as you suggest the noise dissapears when applying the front break. Another possibility is a brake hose moving against of the retaining clips.
Check all the disc buttons are moving freely if not it’ll be as slasherr has said and the disc is rubbing the pads
easy to miss the buttons on a brake service but they are very important. Just use a nut and bolt and a ratchet to wind each one round and round. Do not use any lubricant though.
I done this to my VTR I did use a lube but only a tiny bit and cleaned all round afterward some of them where seized
look on youtube and it will show you how to do it bolt with two nuts on tighten nuts on bobbings and turn bolt carefully
This is all new to me because I come from the 'drum brake' era It seems you're saying the 'buttons' should be a tight fit but still able to rotate? (Hence the term 'floating discs' I guess) And your means of checking is to run an appropriately sized bolt and nut through the holes and then tighten and rotate the whole button? Edit just seen new post above re You Tube. Will check, cheers!!
I do it a bit different I use a bolt and two nuts (which can be nylock) I put the bolt through with one nut already wound on and then nip the bobbin between the two nuts, then I turn the bolt backwards and forwards
