    Hi all,

Thought I'd make a quick intro to the forum as I've been reading a lot of very useful info on here since obtaining my full licence on 6th November this year, to now owning a '54 plate Blade which I got a great deal on.

Writing this, it does sound quite mad; having never ridden before, to passing my test, then 12 days later buying a 1000cc bike and riding it 180 miles back home at night (typical then, that it was one of the coldest nights we've had since summer)...I certainly wouldn't recommend taking this route for the majority of new riders.

Having said this, if you were thinking of doing something similar (albeit not as extreme) and getting a 1000cc as your first bike - be sensible, be honest with yourself about your own capability, and ride safely - and the worst part about the trip will be the cold weather...but the constant grin on my face seemed to warm me up nicely!

I'm not that mechanically minded, but I look forward to taking the bike apart with the odd maintenance job almost as much as I look forward to riding it!

Hoping to get more involved in this great community as and when I have something useful to offer (don't hold your breath!) and to look at joining in the meet-ups to bump heads with some similarly passionate people.

    Best wishes,
    Jamie

Best wishes with the new bike... I'm from Derby myself - manage to get up there 3 - 4 times a year. Take it easy particularly at this time of year.
    Enjoy :)

Welcome along....new to the forum myself, but plenty of useful info here. May I ask, what you are paying for insurance as a newly qualified rider? Presuming you are in yout 30s at least.

Nothing wrong with a 1000cc as a bike. Your right wrist decides what your future holds!!

Welcome! You got an RR4 or a late plated 954?

Thanks for all the welcome wishes guys, much appreciated.

R.M - I initially just looked only on price comparison sites and BikeSure came in as the cheapest at £1,469. It wasn't until reading on this forum that I came across MCE, I rang them direct and it came in at £1170. Very pricey, however, I bought my Blade for £2350 - if I had gone for my original choice of Yamaha MT09 it would have been at least £4000 + £300 insurance. So all in, my preferred option was the cheapest. Although I also read on here that should you need to claim, MCE aren't the most forthcoming, even as far as insurance companies go...so I'll be looking to swap after a year no claims I reckon. Hope this helps

P.s - pics to follow. Just want to get a brake and clutch fluid changed then we'll be out taking some selfies on the roads!

Got the RR4, wanted an older non ABS model to learn from just as much as to play with, also for the price would have been rude not to!

Eek about the insurance, but I guess you could have done a lot worse. I was with MCE with a few bikes, but like a few of us, migrated to BeMoto later on: https://www.bemoto.uk/

They tend to have a 'hassle-free' policy and addons and administrative changes don't attract added fees like MCE lumber us with.
