Hi there, Any suggestions on these? I got a permit in my parking garage to install an anchor, just looking if anyone has done this job themselves.
I bought and fitted this myself; https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/55877 I had to hire a cordless sds masonry drill, which was about £15 for a day, but it was dead easy. Took all of half an hour and seems real solid. I just hope it’s never tested in anger!!
I have this: https://www.getgeared.co.uk/oxford-motorcycle-ground-and-wall-docking-station plus: https://bdlamotorbikes.co.uk/product/oxford-monster-chain-14mm/ Anchor is bolted to the ground, plates covering screws welded in.
Ground anchors are useful (got one myself) but in all honesty the chain you use is always going to be what they cut
I Have a sunken ground anchor, its flush with the concrete floor in my garage but you'd need to dig a big hole for that. is there nothing you can chain it too?
Any of the heavy duty stuff from Milenco, Almax or Pragmasis. I’d for for a chain from any of the above 3 as well, anything with 16mm + links.
Have to say most of the ground anchors I’ve seen have been similar quality. I have an Oxford one bolted in my brothers garage and a Y Anchor in my garage which is sunk into the concrete. But as mentioned the chain is the weakest point. If your bolting to the ground you need to make sure you use some good anchor bolts and if you really want to go overboard use some resin with it. If you use crap bolts the whole thing can be ripped out with a little effort and it doesn’t make that much noise my opinion is that sinking into the concrete is the best option but there just going to cut your chain if they really want it
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to drill into concrete wall with a regular drill or I need to buy a proper SDS drill for this. Anyone has experience maybe with a regular drill? Looks like for oxford wall anchor I need to drill a 12mm pilot hole and 16mm hole.
Matey don’t mess around with those piddly things that are a nightmare to drill into concrete floors, Mr Chin is spot on, decent Almax or similar with a top Squire lock attached to this bad boy, a proper ground anchor, that will stop the tea leaves in their tracks
Yes, definitely, but must have hammer drill action and a masonry drill bit for the sized bolt being used. Chin
You won’t get a 16mm shank in a normal drill chuck as they are a 1/2”/13mm Chuck. You’d have to get a reduced shank drill bit, I’ve just bought a 14mm drill bit from Screwfix (with a 1/2” shank) something to check out so as to not get the wrong one
Just get one of these comes with drill bits or something similar from argos for £50 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROTARY-H...08df:g:kt4AAOSwhfhfAJ6d&LH_ItemCondition=1000
