Before I break out the endoscope what do I just need to press out of the way that isn't obvious. I've tipped it up to do jobs lots of times and I thought it was only two more bolts, a pipe and a couple of plugs. It came out. I did the job I wanted, it does back in the rear bolts but it won't swing back down. I'm sure that all the wiring on the back of the airbox is dressed out of the way. The pipes there are cool. But at about 2cms to go it hits something, not 'clunk' metal-on-metal but still pretty solid. 2015 ABS I had the fuel pump out I have the WM but being told 'install the fuel tank' doesn't help.
So where the bolts go in either side of the tank, have the top hat washers been push inwards where the tank can catch them on the way down? Maybe give the tank a wiggle from side to side in order to clear the obstruction.
sometimes the breather pipe needs a bit of pull, it should enter a hole and exit into the sprocket cover area, try pulling it gently whilst lowering the tank
I appreciated all the suggestions but sadly not yet. I suspect it's something in the new wiring. I was adding a cable for measuring fuel and hooking up a DynoJet Power Commander 5 so I have now stripped the air box out and reseated all my previous add-on wiring for my toys so it's not just tidy but positively beautiful. That took a lot of yesterday, and made precisely no difference. Tomorrow I intend to switch out the last couple of mods I had made so I can get the tank going "in and out like anything" (quote: Eeyore) then start re-adding stuff until I find 'a smoking gun'. I have ordered a couple of right-angle adapters for my pressure transducer 'just in case' to make it a lot shorter than the two plugs it sits between even though the endoscope says it isn't that. Everything was so carefully measured not to give me problems and I really hoped I was just not doing something right but I am now proceeding on the idea that it's self inflicted. It's rather sad as the rest of the fuel gauge seems to be going rather well. The next stage would have been to fill the tank up half a litre at a time and note the pressure counts so I can map out the shape of the tank.
I find mine needs a bit of persuasion sometimes. I put this down to the extra connectors from the PC5 sitting prouder than normal on the back of the airbox. The airbox jacket thing has worn slightly in this area as the fit is so tight against the tank. Shame you are the other end of the country as I would have called in and put another set of eyes on it if you were local.
