There was a thread that I can't find now that I need it.
Basically, the lug/clip where the lower side fairing attaches to the belly pan has broke. Someone on here drilled a hole either side and inserted a push pin to secure both pieces. The results looked stock & I want to try the same.

Just want to know what size push pins they used & was it a simple case of drilling through both panels and inserting pin.

    Thx,

Yes it was indeed me...... I ended up snapping one of the locating lugs off the belly pan where it attaches to the lower part of the fairing so drilled straight through both sections and put a push pin in to secure. I did the same on the other side just for extra strength and so it looked the same.

I had ordered a packet of push pins so I had them ready for when I did the Chinese fairings change over just in case I needed some spares. Can't remember what size they were but if you do a search on ebay (honda cbr 1000 rr push pins) something with crop up. Just match the drill size up to the main body of the push pin and jobs a good'en!

I'll try and find a picture of it;)

I did the same thing, used the push rivets as used in the inner black trim near the clip-ons.
    holes size is 6mm

What year bike do you have? The fairing on my 2014 is limited as to where I can drill. I don't want to make a mess. I have 1 shot at getting this right.

It was a 09, drilled it in the same place as PauloHrc. You just need to make sure you have enough material around the hole (especially the belly pan) to provide enough strength to avoid cracking.

Yeah...that's my problem. I have very little structural fairing to drill into to marry the belly pan to the side fairing. Pain in the arse.

Had similar problems with mine. I drilled a couple of 3mm holes & threaded very small cable ties through. Has lasted so far with no signs of cracking. Will be cleaning bike later so will try to post a picture.

Mine suddenly developed a habit of unclipping at the front of the belly pan after an innocuous scrape on a road hump earlier this year! I dismantled the fairings and refitted a couple of times without success. I decided that after 11y the nipples that serve to latch the 3 things together had finally worn down too much.
3 very small holes, some race wire and a spring later... problem solved. 20200609_091318.jpg

I did something similar on my Chinese track fairings, after the tab snapped and one side blew off on a trackday
Luckily it was on the first sighting lap so not going too fast
I lined them up and drilled through but then used a small screen screw I had that matched the colour and used epoxy to glue the nut on the inside to make it captive. Push pin probably easier though, I just didn’t have any spare at the time.

Hey guys, well I'm here clearly as ive spanned one of the two clips holding the bellypan to the fairing... was all looking rosy until I shifted it slightly to get the side one in and pop!! Doh!!...

So... looks like you guys are experts... so is a push pin enough? I've looked at @PauloHRC photo and they look quite concealed... proper numpty question coming up... I'm guessing you can't drill with them on? And also never having drilled a fairing before what do you use to stop potential cracking??

A push pin will work fine for holding it together. I drilled the fairings while they were on the bike, just don't drill with too much pressure so you don't pop through the other side and hit anything metal but even if you did you're not going to do any serious damage. Didn't have any problems with cracking, just don't drill too slow as it could catch/snag. A good confident drill straight in and straight out is whats required ;):D

Awesome,Thanks @PauloHRC , not sure if I'll get time tomorrow but will give it a shot! I take it drill a small hole first and then enlarge?

Think I used 6mm push pin. I just drilled one hole while holding the 2 pieces tightly together. No need to start small and enlarge. Hardly notice them unless u look closely.

make sure you warm the panels before drilling, this will help stopping cracking

Got it done this arvo! Used a push pin, will get a pic up of the bike and fix once I've given it a quick wash next weekend! Thanks for the help guys, was proper simple in the end! And I was originally thinking, fuck here comes 200 quid for a new panel and 3 week wait from HK! :)
