The drill is left handed, not a reground right hand drill, the spiral is left hand wound, so yes your assumption is correct mate, run the LH drill...

A big problem for me with easy outs is they expand the stud/thread as they wind in, they are ok for loose snapped bolts but my favourite for that...

I use a simple doctors style scope, works a treat and let's you pin point 90% of noises, that and an optical scope are two great tools to help...
If it's towards the front you could be hearing the PAIR reeds/valves ticking away, stethoscope is best way to locate any noise.
