Did mine 4 years ago and still looking pretty good. Not the easiest to apply but take your time and do the small bits first to get the hang of it....
Sounds like they need a good clean. Take the pads out give them a good clean especially where they contact the calliper, whilst you’re at it check...
As above, Burnt out exhaust valve, sticking valve(s), hole in piston. What was the symptoms when the problem occurred?

The threaded bar is probably better being adjusted with no load on it. Do a bit at a time until you get it where you want it.
