I think almost any master cylinder would be an upgrade. Not necessarily a big spend. Obviously a caliper stripdown and clean before any other changes.

Almost sounds like the lockup side of the slipper clutch. Has the clutch been apart recently?
Better to have a slack chain than tight. What oil are you using and how many miles has the oil done? Any difference between hot and cold engine?
The lock piece is on the thread. Tbh don't remember ever seeing washers on a rear sprocket. Is it because it's aluminium?
Other year's are listed some say 16-18 others 08-17. Some are cheaper as well ( same make)
