easiest option is to buy an led flasher relay
I put LED's on the front of mine. leds were about 6w and the resister about 6w. It does not need the full 21w to get the right flash rate.
I bet a lot of brake systems ( car and bike ) have fluid that is over 5 years old with no issues. I would have no issues with putting it in mine
As long as you split the line and put a diode in each line it would be fine, or just not have the indicators flashing
