They are the same fit yes. Only thing you need to look out for is if you have an ABS model, you will need the wheels off of a 2012 ABS bike.

It does sound like it could well be a problem with the slave cylinder.
It's the feel you get through the lever that makes all the difference. That and you can play with the ratio to get the feel you like.
