I'm not just saying it but 99% of shifters on the market are poor! The ONLY one that works 100% is the HM Plus, you may have seen the RL shifter...

Its as Ben says even thought the looms plug has a holding clip I am 99% sure there is no tab for it unlike most of the others.. :)
As you say there is only one real spring weight for each rider the rest is down to valveing, shim setup, valve dynamics, oil type, air gap, top...
