Recently got a 1000 rr 4 and it's done 16700 miles, no evidence of the 16000 mile service where the valve clearance's need to be checked/adjusted... Just wondering how much this will cost and if should go to main dealer? Or something easy to do myself? I'm not no novice at mechanics and do have a Haynes manual for guidance but haven't looked it up yet

Any info or experience's to share would be great...

It's an expensive one due to valve clearance checks, and lots of places don't do it properly but charge for it anyway. Have a word with Arthur on here to see what his workload is like.

This is Arthur. Bit like the A-Team meets Batman and one of our resident experts :D Not sure where he lives but it is somewhere below the M4 west of Guildford. Worth the journey though by all accounts, even considering getting my bike down to him for my 16K if he isn't too busy.

+1 for using Arthur I wouldn't trust anyone else now with my bike, heard to many stories of people paying for shim checks and finding out later it's never been touched, Arthur takes photos of what he has done as proof so excellent work in my eyes

    .

I've just paid 'Brindley Honda' in Wolverhampton £460.00 for a 16K service, plus, at my request, coolant and spark plug replacement (4 X plugs £18.00 each = £76.00, OUCH!) Normally it's just an inspection for the plugs (re-place @ 36,000) but I've got a PC5/Taylormade combo that needs calibrating/fine tuning on a dyno so fresh plugs and air filter for best results.

I'm not complaining mind. I thrashed the CBF1000 they loaned me within an inch of it's life and returned it with 413 happy miles added on the clock.

    Happy Days.

    Nick.

The valve clearances were checked but didn't need adjusting.

The service was done at Tillston's in Stockton-on-Tees. Bit far for you, I'm thinking :D

Ive had mine done this year at Miles Kingsport.. I had the "Platinum Service"... and eye watering £450.... When I pick the bike up it felt brand new.. I didn't trust anyone local to do the job.. I`ve also heard the horror stories...:(

You could try my friend terry @ Everest motorcycles. He's in uckfield and has many years main dealer experience. Trust him completely and hourly rates very good. Has a courtesy bike too. If you do go let me know as I may pop up there and get some new rubber fitted too.

Had mine done at Jordan Bikes in Leeds, £360 including plugs & valves clearance. Set price menu for all their work, and they always phone before doing anything outside that.

I tried to get mine adjusted with Arthur but he is really busy so I ended up getting a quote from my local Honda dealer. They quoted £375 all in. They sign the inside of the cam cover as proof they have actually checked the clearances.

Yep, most seem to be in the £400 range, although if you can find a good independent service centre, you're likely to save about a £100 - depending upon whether it needs plugs and air filter.

    Hi Nigel,
she is booked in for next week at a cost of £365. Going to stick with a main dealer for this one. I get the appropriate paperwork etc and peace of mind it should be done to honda standards, or she will be back! haha added bonus though, found out there is a recall on mine! Might get a new tank out of it
