    Wondering if anyone can help.

I've been having bother starting the bike over the past few days, and it looks like I've narrowed it down to a faulty TP sensor.

This is based on the MIL on the dash (what I would call the engine management light) flashing 8 times when the ignition is on.

I'm not actually at the bike just now, but I was hoping someone could maybe give some info on a couple of points:

    - How easy is it to access the TP sensor on the bike?

    - is it common for these to fail, or is it more likely that it's a dodgy connection?

Any other info or assistance that anyone can provide would be very much appreciated!

    Many thanks.

it is bolted on the side of the throttle bodies.
    tank cover off
    tank lifted
disconnect ecu on top of air box
    remove air box
    replace tps

you can test the tps with a multimeter once off

Mate, thank you - that's a big help.

I've done a bit of Google searching and read a couple of horror stories where guys are saying that you can't get a standalone TPS from Honda, and have to buy a whole new throttle body assembly, which I'm guessing is a load of cash.

I dont suppose you happen to know if this is true, or internet bollocks (hopefully)?

buy throttle bodies from ebay, remove tps and then resale the bodies to get some cash back

I'd test yours first, you need the manual to show you how.

you also need to make sure tps is in the correct position if you change it.

Will do mate. I've got the manual on my computer at work, so I'll have a look tomorrow. I'm guessing it's just a big variable resistor that you can test with a multimeter...

Bit of an update, if anyone's interested...

Started stripping down what i had to to get access to the throttle bodies yesterday, to size up the job for a TPS swap.

As I was checking all the accessible electrical connections for any obvious problems, I noticed the main earth bolt to the frame was loose. Oh, I thought, maybe a dodgy earth is causing the ECU to shit itself and tell me there's a TPS fault when there's actually not one?

Turns out that was exactly right. Tightened it up, ignition on, fault code cleared. Tank back on and connected up, and she roars into life on the first touch of the button.

Rest assured I feel like a right f#cking bellend. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere...
