After coming back from Yorkshire on the back of a breakdown truck with my 14 blade the other week, after a front wheel bearing collapsed, was talking to a mate with a 13 plate this weekend. As he is off to France on Tuesday, and has planned new tyres tomorrow, he checked his bearings, and sure enough his fronts too were well on the way out. My bike had done about 28,500 miles, my mates a little less, anyone else had this problem? Worth checking them if your bike is getting above 25k miles. Before anyone asks, no jet washes were used at any time during the bikes life.
I've never heard of it being an issue and it's not something I've experienced with my blades. Mine were/are not as high mileage though to be fair.
I know I am not the only one, just trying to let people know there maybe an issue, and to warn others to check them out. Here are a couple of other threads: https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/alls-balls-bearings.33975/ https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/rr5-front-wheel-bearings.33904/
Both my front bearings gave out at 31000 miles, one of the cages holding the bearings had collapsed. Now use quality SKF units.
