Thinking of doing Bedford later in July. Never done a track day before - is Bedford a good one to cut my teeth on?
Yes, definitely. It's why I go there as often as I do as I'm still learning. There's loads of room and the whole place is as flat as you can get so you can always see what's coming up. There are no barriers or gravel off the track, just grass, miles of grass. You can also book training (observation to be more accurate) that's worth doing.
That was an epic day, bike felt great and I didn't feel like a fucked old fart. Happy days. Next I need to lower the gearing as as I'm getting faster I'm getting annoying 2-3-2 changes between corners with the 3 being just before the braking point. If I don't do it then of half the laps I hit the limiter. I'll lower the gearing to bring that change forward and I'm on standard gearing and have moved to a 55 rear so it's definitely time I did this. I'm also only getting to 5th at the end of the straight. I think the chain has stretched a little as my clutchless changes were heavy towards the end of the day so a new change is in order and I'll get a quickshifter for the bike for fun. Haven't spent any money on paint or sticker so I'm effectively saving money by buying one. An indication of how much harder I'm accelerating is that I hit low low fuel light half way through the least session in the morning after about 55-60 miles from full. Never had that happen before.
