Morning. My 2009 fireblade is now approaching 4k. According to my owners manual it does not require oil /filter til 8k!?
My local Honda dealer have quoted me £140 for the service which I assume is basically oil/filter as I regularly maintain my own brakes /chain etc.
Any opinions on the 8k oil/filter change? Feel inclined to do it myself!

The bikes out of warranty so if you're able do it yourself.

The dealer will be charging you for checking the things that you check yourself.

Hopefully you don't have 6 year old oil in it.

With that restricted mileage, you should be changing it yearly and not mileage related.

As above - do it yourself with your choice of oil and filter for probably less than a third of the price. As Kent said, ignore mileage as it's so low and do your changes based on time - so once a year. Include all other fluids with that thinking too - brake and coolant (coolant won't need changing each year). Worth looking back at when the fork fluid was last replaced, if ever, as this will need doing too after 6 years.
Great fun doing it yourself, especially with winter coming up fast you can get it sorted in time for the new year!
And don't forget to pat your tank once you've done it all... :D

Good advice! What's the recommended oil?

your case is a bit tricky (similar to mine): low mileage vs age of the bike makes schedule maintenance difficult. find out what the dealer does for the service things like checking wheel alignment, brake pads and other things.
I believe in getting a dealer (competent and trustworthy) to service the bike from time to time outside my own DIY maintenance routine

they may check and advise to change the brake fluid and the coolant.

BTW just be aware Honda recommends FS oil, comp 4 is a semi (good oil nevertheless)
