To further on from the performance bikes thread about readers garages, I have been enjoying reading about the Yamaha R1 Aluminum Girder Front Suspension from SuspensionSmith of Australia.

I understand little about how it all works but just love the mechanics of using something different than forks.

    Such as the Vyrus

Anyone else find it interesting reading about how others try and improve/change bikes.

I know BMW use the Duolever/Paralever

Just love how things work and go together. Anyone else have this passion?

Personally I don't give a shit wether that front swinging arm design works or not, it's pig ugly.

    I've read also latest PB
...that's always the problem with non conversional front systems. Because bikers all over the world hate such a design (and I must admin, I don't like it also by the looks of it), that's why HUGE projets like Britten's V1000 never came in production, or addapted from any factory all over the world. And that's sad :(

Too bad the inventor died so young... he had so much more to give. Great loss. That bike was decades away from it's time...

got to agree a great bit of work and loved the documentary I need about the bike and the inventor

Was thinking more about the engineering side than the looks of it

From an engineering perspective it IS interesting, and also important we keep looking at alternatives in everything, otherwise technological advancement will grind to a shuddering halt. But it's still pig ugly.
