Although as with Guy Martin's attempt, isn't it a cheat to do it the draft of another vehicle?

 

I guess towing it in the first place could be classed the same but if they didn't do either then I suppose the speed would be the same as the lycra lunatics out on Sundays

Although I think in my mind we were the fastest ever as kids when we went to the nearest steepest hill on our Raleighs and the last one to touch their brakes was the king of the day

 

Always wanted the Raleigh Grifter...it had the twist grip to change gears which we all thought was sooooo cool

The Chopper though, that was the epitome of cool

 

so if I get on a blade and gear it for 500mph, get a tow to get up to speed with that crazy gearing and stay behind the rocket powered sled keeping all wind reistance off me, does that count as a new record??
those records are stupid and should not be allowed, its CHEATING...

 

Choppers were a mare, mate had one whilst I had a 5 speed Raleigh race bike. Of course one day we swapped bikes and within 200 yards the front end wobbled so much that the front wheel went and I ended up like Superman flying through the gap in the handles. Unlike Superman I got a major dose of gravel rash on my hands and forearms which stung something rotten for days!

Of course when I got home I got a bollocking, but think I was spared a clip round the lughole on that occasion.

Ahh they were the days.....when you came home injured and got another belt for being stupid

 

So true. Took a chunk of bone out my elbow playing football when I was meant to be playing cricket at an organised event with the Scouts (dib dib dib). Got home and didn't tell parents and it took them hours to notice I wasn't straightening my arm. On the way to A&E I told them I had hurt it playing cricket, after all it was the Scouts so how could they have a problem with that.

Was another 30 years before I fessed up

 

And don't forget the times when you used to come home complaining about another kid belting you, so then you got another belt for not belting the other kid back
In fact you learnt very quickly not to mention anything at all.....unless it was obvious, like one eyebrow shaved off

At the risk of joining you on the 'poo bear' shelf, I totally agree.

If the cyclist - whether male or female, by the way - attained that speed WITHOUT motorised intervention, all well and good and a record should stand.

For me, this is no different than the prospect of fixing a jet pack to Eddie the Eagle and entering him in the 2022 Winter Olympics ski jump.
