Anybody use them , keep pondering on getting summat that will work upto a mile away as that's how far back I usually am from the rest of the pack. Don't know much about the best makes or size of them and how many extra you can add on the same channel or frequency ? Experiences guys ?
I use a Sena SMH10, and it's superb. Connect to the iphone, sat nag and bike to bike at the same time. The new Sena 20S looks amazing, 8 way intercom with 1.2 mile range ! 20S - Sena
On the SMH10 you can buy an alternative helmet mount for £35 ( which I did ), that does away with the wired in earphones and boom mic, and has a 3.5mm jack, and wire in mic for full face helmets. The new 20s seems to have the 3.5mm jack built in.
Just to give my view on the scala for you Stevie. Purchased a couple of units ready for Spain & already used them on the Devon run this weekend this decission Pretty much on the recommendation of Jimbo & others, & the fact steves hand signal are random bordering on hilarious we thought we'd better sort something more reliable. Purchased a scala G9,updated the software as instructed. On the run down Saturday had slight issues with it continually dropping out & re connecting to the other four guys that had them, they were using the G4 & I'm unsure if they'd updated the software recently. Skip to Sunday & the ride back, Steve now had his G9 fitted & we managed to remain in contact for the duration. It's ideal through towns etc, me telling Steve the direction/exit we're taking. Wind noise from the other users was a little annoying, but I soon learnt to turn the volume down once you begin to push on. Got a couple of niggles to iron out with the fitting, the Arai chaser has a couple of gaps in the lining for the speakers, but this leaves them above the ears and difficult to hear, especially if wearing ear plugs. To fix this I'm going to get my mum to do like a pin cushion effect on the lining pulling in a part of the liner in a circular sort of shape for the speaker to fit snugly in. You can of course suffer this on short journeys with out the need too, but after a days riding and the speakers continually pressing against your outer ear, you soon get to know how a boxer must feel after a few rounds of being slapped around. I'll try and get some pictures later to show what I mean.
Yea they all seemed to be enjoying themselves talking away on the way home Sunday, I just chatted away to myself!
You fellas that have the G9; do they come with both the boom mic & wired mic? There seems to be a few different models out there such as G9 G9X etc. Thanks
Yes mate comes with both mics. Tried the boom mic but quite bulky and the pad is much better stuck in front of lid near mouth. G9x allows you to share music with your pillion but otherwise don't see anything really that functional over G9. Also if you buy in pair can get cheaper. Think I paid £280 from Amazon
G4 is a great unit but the G9 is better, know people said the battery of the G9 does not last as long but that is probably down to the fact they were not fully charged the first time used, its important (according to scala) you fully charge them before first use, even though they are prob Li batteries a good few don't charged correctly if not done from new (according to scala and customer feedback), the G9 has larger Hi-def speakers and a better mic you can run the later speakers etc with the G4 so I am told, the G4 can be paired with two phones if you and a passenger want to share that feature unlike the G9 that is one phone only. The team sets are rider to passenger unlike the power sets that are all modes. Scala over complicated the features and dropped some neat stuff from model to model, why that can't just be clear on what you get with each set I don't know, you have to study the features to spot whats not included the chart does not show the little things like two phone support on other models. I have the G9, great unit and fits well in my Arai Corsai RX7.
