Well the event is nearly upon us and im a bag of nerves and excitement!! Robinh and I will be taking our first step into road racing together this weekend at scarborough so come and down and support us if you get chance. I am riding in the senior and open on bike number 223- Cbr1000rr Robin is riding his r6 number 73 i think Hope to see you there
I hope I am not riding the R6, as I sold that last October and the new owner will probably be looking for it. I am going to be on my GSXR600, number 173 though. Fingers crossed the weather is decent for us and lets us have a good weekend.
Good luck kiddo!!! you'll do great. you doing only the road stuff this year robin or track also? Good luck fella. you can both sign my 'helmet' when i see you next superstars!
Cheers Jimbo! I am cutting down on the short circuits to do more roads this year. I wanted to do the Southern 100 again, but work commitments mean that isn't going to happen. I have sent my entry off for the Ulster GP too which should be mega. As for signing helmets, this can be done at the back of the gazebo when nobody is watching.
Well here it is... second leg of the senior race onboard. Ran on first lap and got held to the back before I could continue. Then got stuck behind the lad on the aprilia. Ended up lapping 5 secs of the leaders so fairly happy just didnt get enough laps in 25 at the most over the whole weekend. Very sad news about billy too.. should never have happened and I cant help but feel that its down to auto 66's very poor organisational skills. Anyway here's the race
Sadly the weekend's racing is overshadowed by the very sad death of Billy Redmayne, a true star of road racing and one to have watched for the future. I first met him at the Southern 100 last year and he was so down to earth and helped me out loads with pointers on the circuit. Had a quick catch up with him at Oliver's Mount and even sadly wished him luck before his final outing. Looking at the positives though, I managed to only get a races in the 600s (junior), as the open races had to be cancelled due to red flags. Race one saw me starting in 6th place on the grid, which I fought to hold over the entire race and ended up in 6th. The second race got me starting in 6th but a good start and some cunning moves early on saw me get up to 4th place. Third was within reach had the race been run over the full distance, but those missing 2 laps saw me stick with 4th. Overall, I was made up with this as it was my first time there, so very happy indeed with this. As Mark Yorkshire Tyke has said, the organisation left a lot to be desired and caused a lot of annoyance, but I can't wait to return with a podiumin sights this next time.
Mate you rode like a beast. I can see the attraction the risk is so high but the rewards are so fruitful
You were properly flying too, just look at your lap times and the fact you were the only newcomer in the senior. Mega results from yourself, Barry and me. Yes the risks are high, but there is nothing on the green and pleasant planet that comes anywhere near close to the thrill of road racing.
