Changing my brake lines over tomorrow, non abs. Anyone got any tips or anything to be aware of? Looks fairly simple from reading up online Just don't want to mess it up as you can imagine.
Changed mine to HEL on my 2011. If you're using double lines rather than the over fender fro the front, you'll need a couple of 'P' clips to attach to the lower yoke, and, I reckon 'P' clips look better on the front guard too i.e:
Be certain you've got the LH line going to the LH caliper and vice versa and make sure they are the right way up. A syringe to empty the reservoir makes things a bit easier. Don't forget to bleed from the master cylinder aswell as the calipers when you've got the new lines on.
True. In my naivety I didn't do that. Would explain why it took longer than it should have AND why I used more fluid over the process.
Ahhh I've not got round to attempting it yet. I keep telling myself to take it to a garage. I know it's probably an easy job, even got one of those one man vacuum bleeder things. But I can't get away from if I do something wrong, it's the brakes.. I kinda need them.
You'll be fine, another good idea is to cable tie the lever to the bar overnight after you've done the job. Serves 2 purposes....it puts the fluid under pressure so any air bubbles are compressed making their route to the reservoir easier. It will also show you that your system is OK and you've got no leaks.
Stu, it's really a simple job (on non-ABS). If an OAP like myself can do it, you'll romp it in. If you do feel nervous about it, do the rear first because it's only one line. The key is really to keep squeezing air out of the system and job's done!
Take it from a mechanical muppet that bleeding brakes is simple. I replaced the hoses and upgraded to Brembo calipers on my 07, just took my time, had plenty of blue roll, and a bleeding tool although in the end I did a final bleed using the old fashioned manual method. As mentioned cable tieing the lever back over night helps, and additionally leave the new container of brake fluid sat undisturbed for as long as possible, ideally a few weeks or a month.
I'n not 100% sure but believe it is a combination of posts, points and ratings. @Lozzy is the one who normally knows the answer to this one, I searched but couldn't find definitive proof.
I'll find the Points list and also the Status list But as @Barstewardsquad has said, you collect them for each year you're on here and the amount of Likes and various other things.
