I noticed a slight wet patch around the nipple.

Took it out and noticed some corrosion just outside the seating cone area. I was surprised to see this and can't tell what the material of the nipple is.

So the question is has anyone replaced theirs and the reason why?

I put some PTFE round the thread and bled the brake; so far all is good but may change the nipple to a different material depending on the feedback I get

I am fairly certain that they're ordinary mild steel. On unmaintained bikes you can see traces of rust along the threads.

Haven't replaced mine but had considered stainless steel conversion, but not yet checked thread depth etc.

Oh and PTFE sealed threads is not something you want on a high pressure system like the front brakes, so I would get that fixed asap.

I bought these here (though not yet fitted them yet).

The advantage is that on these, the seal is made with an o-ring, not a thread which may be opened/closed frequently (depending on how often brakes are bled)

They look like monstrous great things compared to "normal" nipples! o_O

I'd be keen to see before/after or side by side photos for comparison

Totally agree, @hitch. Their weight alone would throw our steering to the crapper, not to mention the aerodynamic drag!

On the RR8, the rear nipple is 27~28mm long. I measured the thread diam to be 5.5mm but may be classed as 6. Incidently I think the valve is the same as that on the MC

PTFE only went on around part of the thread to reduce air being sucked through it into the bleeder. Remember the thread is not the seal once the nipple is closed; the valve seat is.
