I have just noticed my chain adjusters are out by half a notch, (not done by me). I will correct it but out of interest do you just rely on the markers either side of the swing arm? If not what do you use?

Used to use digital vernier, now rely on the Gilles adjuster with a manual check every now and again.

    ^^ same but with lightechs.

Also could use the longest ruler you have and rest on the sprocket, from the rear eye down the edge of the ruler, it should line up with the with same point of the side plates down the entire length of the chain.

im not going to mention my high tech meted then, lol
    Oh go on then
two long straight wooden beams, run them down the sides of the rear wheel, then measure the gaps either side of the front wheel then adjust until they measure the same.
    Old school baby lol

Thanks for these guys. Looks like I need to go for some more upmarket adjusters. My problem with the handling since the new tyres were put on could be this then? Half a notch on the swing arm may not sound much but I'll bet when that difference get the the edge of the tyre, it is enough to make a difference.

I measure both sides ,from the centre of the swingarm spindle to the centre of the wheel spindle.
