Hi guys - what's the best way to clean all the chain off the inside of the chain guard/bodywork. Cheers
I use soap and water, followed by WD40 with a chain brush to clean. Wipe it all off and then apply a good dose of chain lube.
I am slowly developing a fear of WD and the chain, I'm thinking its too good at washing grease away and its a penetrant. I feel it really gets in and may do too good a job on the chain itself, although great elsewhere. So for the chain its paraffin for me and WD/ elsewhere. Mike.
Thats why I clean it off and then give it a good soaking in chain lube. I've done this for years and my chains last really well.
WD40. I got 17000 out of my last chain. I probably did not need to change it, but I fancied a gold DID one.
My OE chain had done around 14k, but discoloured through impropper maintainance (oiling, but not cleaning properly). I now have a shiney new one and look after it better. WD on the side plates, then cleaner on the rollers, before finishing off with a thorough oiling and spray wax.
if on the chain or guard parrafin and tooth brush, cuts through that gunk in no time. If on the body work Vulcanet wipes, BTW these wipes are the danglies!
Muc off degreaser works surprisingly well, chain lube comes off with little effort and it's great for hard to reach areas.
