Okay, I'm new to the blade and I was sat on the bike wondering how hot the coolant temperature can get before it starts to over heat? I know some coolants have different boiling points but as a rule when should I be concerned? It was hot at the weekend (nearly forgotten already!) and the bike's fan was running after I turned the bike off. Temp was at just over 100 degrees. Also, I have an Optimate 4 and was hoping to wire in the adapter onto the battery. Trouble is the seat won't come off. One bolt fine and the other stuck fast. I don't want to fuck the head up. Any tips or should I be looking for a an impact driver or something? Is this a common problem? I don't have an Owners manual either (2012 ABS)......does anyone know where one can be downloaded? 100 degrees is fine, fan doesnt come on until 105 in the RR4 so you dont have any worries there. I wouldnt get worried until over 110 then I would think about pulling in and turning it off for awhile. If the cooling system is working correctly fan should always be able to cool the bike or at least prevent it getting any hotter. Its a pressurized system so coolant wont boil as early as it would exposed to atmosphere.
No problems matey, as confirmed by Lambchops. I see 108 in traffic now its warmer every day, just means my b**lox are are now well done, rather than just the medium rare they cook to in the winter. Just be careful with the bolt, gently shocking it is one way to try to free it, along with a little plus gas, even gently try to tighten it further can sometime help free the thread.
Yeah, I'd give the screw head a gentle tap, it's pretty weather tight on the thread, so it's more likely the back of the head has stuck to the subframe. A little impact should free it off.
Seen 105 in traffic low speeds. Seen 110 in Spain in 35+ degree heat. never been a issue, When riding at speeds it's normally 80degress. But had no lower than 98 But it was the middle of Spain, 35+ even though I was doing well over 80MPH at the time
Cheers guys......I figured it was ok but first bike with a temperature display rather than just a series of bars so wasn't sure what the norm was. Like you say, it seems to fluctuate from 80-105 depending on whether I'm moving or not. I'll try giving the bolt a tap and see if it works. Cheers for the tip!
Like Kent I see 108C now the weather is warmer. Hit the open road and it will drop to the 80s. The Blade is OK to IIRC to about 123C(or somewhere round there) Just last week fitted a manual fan switch where I can turn on the either the right fan or both at any time. I turn it on when I hit the London traffic, helps massively to stop the temps creeping upwards
